A techie who made his home in the DevOps and Game Development spheres. He specializes in automation, infrastructure, and game mechanics. Whether he decides to launch scalable services in the cloud or prototype favorite gameplay ideas, he always goes out swinging to the fences.

Bio

Matthew Shiroma is an experienced DevOps Engineer, who’s career led him to multiple avenues of the technology sphere. From working as a cloud consultant for major corporations to spearheading best practices at an animation startup studio, Matthew has been through many first times. His latest endeavour at Mindshow highlights his expertise of AWS, Unity, and Git.

Outside of work, Matthew strives to polish his craft in game development and discovering new open sourced toolings. He is also no stranger to a good game of Super Smash Brothers! Matthew also grew an appreciation for the great outdoors as well, going on nature hikes or riding his foldable bike around SoCal. You may also catch him at his favorite tea spots as well, dabbing into digital art!

Lead DevOps Engineer - Mindshow
Feb 2022 - present

Matthew is currently providing his cloud expertise at the folks at Mindshow, a VR technology company that intersects with 3D animation. He initially started out as a DevOps Engineer back in 2022, but after a year, was promoted to Lead DevOps Engineer.

Some of his major contributions include:

  • Reorganize their AWS infrastructure under best practices
  • Create a streamlined Unity build pipeline via GitHub Actions
  • Translate an on-premise multiplayer matchmaking service to be containerized via AWS ECS
  • Deploy public APIs to generate TextGrids and video renders via the cloud
  • Dabble into Unity development, aid senior engineers with UI/UX tasks and new features for the Mindshow application
Cloud Engineer - Nebulaworks
April 2019 - Feb 2022

Matthew started his DevOps journey as a Cloud Specialist at Nebulaworks, a cloud consultancy company. By taking on two certifications, Docker Certified Associate and Certified Kubernetes Administrator, he bootstrapped his Linux and SysAdmin experience to new heights.

Once brought on as a full time Cloud Engineer, Matthew continued to foster his knowledge to clients such as PwC, FOX, and Gilead. Some of the tasks he did was:

  • Upgraded an enterprise Docker EE deployment to the newest version
  • Architected a Atlantis CI/CD pipeline to be used within a large mono repository
  • Created new Terraform Modules to be reused by team members for AWS deployments
  • Delved into GCP and Azure, utilizing cloud native tooling to foster best practices
  • Partook in networking communities such as CloudNatives to spread awareness of open source software
